Things are about to get stranger...

Welcome to my blog. Originally, this was just a testing place for me to learn about blogs and play around with some different technologies. But things are about to get serious...and stranger!

I find myself presently, ahem, **financially embarrassed** (thanks for the euphemism, Mom!) and have decided to sell my car and live car-free for at least a year. This both excites and scares the crap outta me. I have been a fair-weather bike commuter for a couple of years now, and recently moved 5 minutes from my job (by bike). I live near all the interesting urban attractions my university-town can offer. A major grocery store is across the street from my office. I am 1 block from a bus stop, and 3 blocks from the Amtrak station. I do not have pressing health issues, and my kids are nearly grown, so I do not need to haul them around, much. So why am I so apprehensive about doing the single most important thing I can for my own long-term financial health?

This blog is going to examine the conflicting thoughts, feelings and emotions of a 48 year old single mom who is endevoring to repair her finances, live a simpler and healthy lifestyle, and deal with all the many issues that revolve around car ownership and what that means to me and to the society and culture I live in. My attempt to live an examined life, pleasing to God. Stay tuned.
